FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of using a coolant tube in a liquid-cooled plasma torch. Method includes installing a coolant tube and a first electrode in a plasma torch, and also by applying, with the aid of the first coolant stream, to the impact surface provided on the coolant tube, to displace this tube relative to the first electrode. Exposure by the first coolant flow sets the first axial distance between the coolant tube sealing ring and the proximal end of the first electrode. Method further comprises removing the first electrode from the plasma torch and installing the second electrode in the burner, and a biasing action by a second coolant flow to the surface to act on the coolant tube relative to the second electrode, so that the coolant tube moves in a direction along the longitudinal axis for contact with the second electrode. Effect by the second coolant flow sets the second axial distance between the coolant tube sealing ring and the proximal end of the second electrode. Difference between the first distance and the second distance is at least about 0.25 inches.
EFFECT: compatibility of the liquid coolant tube with consumable components (for example, electrodes) for different processes, which reduces the complexity of installing and removing burner components.
