SUBSTANCE: invention relates to vehicles. Battery system with a battery installed in the vehicle, recharged by external electric energy, contains a mechanism for determining the power from an external source of electrical energy; battery charger; mechanism for increasing the temperature of the battery and a control unit for the charging mechanism and the temperature raising mechanism. In low power mode, the control unit prohibits an increase in the temperature of the battery when its charge level is lower than the reference charging value and causes the charging mechanism to charge the battery. Charger charges the battery until its charge level reaches the value to stop charging, and then, if the battery temperature drops below the reference temperature, it starts to raise the temperature. If during the temperature rise the battery charge level drops below the reference value, the temperature rise stops and the battery is charged up to the stopping value.

EFFECT: increased speed of the battery charging.
