FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in chemical industry. In the method, the process for manufacturing titanium tetrachloride includes a chlorination process in which the titanium-containing material is reacted with coke and chlorine to obtain titanium tetrachloride. Next, an extraction process is carried out in which chlorine gas, titanium oxide and coke are recovered by treating a solid recycled material produced as a by-product during the chlorination process. Then, a reuse process is carried out in which the recovered materials are re-used as raw material for the chlorination process. During the separation, gaseous chlorides and finely divided solid components are separated by heating the solid secondary material. Then, the impurities of gaseous chlorides are isolated, oxidized and heated to separate chlorine gas from them.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to use titanium-containing raw materials with a high content of impurities as a raw material for the manufacture of titanium tetrachloride.
