FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to pharmaceutical chemistry, in particular to a process for the preparation of 1-carbamoylmethyl-4-phenyl-2-pyrrolidone (phenothropyl). Process for the preparation of 1-carbamoylmethyl-4-phenyl-2-pyrrolidone (phenothropyl) is that the alkali salt of 4-phenyl-2-pyrrolidone is alkylated in toluene with 2-chloroacetamide, add cold water with the evolution of the resulting phenotropil, separate the aqueous and organic layers, the aqueous layer is extracted with toluene, the resulting extracts are combined with the toluene layer, and unreacted 4-phenyl-2-pyrrolidone is recovered, and further extraction of the aqueous layer with ethyl acetate yields an additional amount of phenothropyl.
EFFECT: advantages of the method are the reduction of the process steps and the use of more accessible raw materials.
