FIELD: chemistry; pharmaceutics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to pharmaceutical chemistry, specifically to synthesis of 2-(2-oxo-4-phenylpyrrolidin-1-yl)acetamide (fonturacetam) used as a nootropic. Method of producing fonturacetam from phenibut by alkylation thereof with 2-haloacetamide is characterized by that the process is carried out in water, in one chemical step, combining alkylation and cyclisation, in the presence of a weak base – an organic amine of general formula R1R2R3N, where R1, R2, R3 are alkyl, alkylidene groups, both separate from each other and forming closed cycle(s), including containing heteroatoms O, S, N.
EFFECT: safe and processable single-step method of producing the desired compound using available raw material and water as a solvent, while maintaining an acceptable output of the product.
