FIELD: electrometallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of electrometallurgy and can be used for calcining bulk materials and/or producing metallic or non-metallic melts. Installation includes a lined furnace with openings for loading raw materials and releasing processed materials, the lateral part of which is made in the form of a surface of revolution. Lining creates a capacity for materials being processed. Two electrodes are inserted inside the lined body through the seal assemblies in its end parts. Furnace is provided with a device for tilting the lined body towards one or other of the aforesaid openings and a mechanism for rotating the lined body relative to the axis passing through its end portions. Current leads are connected to a DC power supply and their terminals are located above the axis of rotation of the lined body on one side of the vertical plane passing through the axis of rotation.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase the intensity of heating and mixing of materials loaded into the furnace and the efficiency of physicochemical reactions flowing in the working space of the furnace, while increasing productivity and reducing the specific consumption of electricity that is used for processing materials in the furnace.
