FIELD: measurement technology; chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a garnet based scintillation composition for use in detecting ionizing radiation that can be used to detect gamma quanta in PET imaging. Ceramic or polycrystalline scintillation composition is represented by the formula (LuyGd3-y)(GaxAl5-x)O12:Ce, where y=1±0.5; x=3±0.25; Ce is in the range from 0.1 mol% to 0.7 mol%.

EFFECT: composition has an improved sensitivity, having in mind a light output, a reduced decay time, and its ceramic or polycrystalline form is advantageously amenable to a simple manufacturing process compared to single crystal formulations.
