FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the method of obtaining phenothyazine, which consists in the fusion of diphenylamine with elemental sulfur in the presence of catalytic amounts of iodine followed by cooling and recrystallization, characterized in that the boiling of the resulting sludge is carried out in toluene for 50-60 minutes, then cooled to 70°C, ethyl alcohol is added, the mixture is boiled for 50-60 minutes and cooled.

EFFECT: new method of obtaining phenothyazine is developed, the difference of which is a new method of recrystallizing phenothyazine, that allows to obtain a product with a higher yield and purity.
