SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for initialising a control utility in a computing environment. Operating system or other control utility uses the common boot sequence to be able to be booted in either a first architecture configuration that initialises in one architecture, e.g., ESA/390, and then switches to another architecture, e.g., z/Architecture, for processing, or in a second architectural configuration that initialises and processes in the other architecture, e.g., z/Architecture.
EFFECT: enabling the utility to be booted in many configurations without changing the boot sequence.
