SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the flowmeters, and more particularly to a method and apparatus for determining and applying variable zeroing algorithms to a vibratory flowmeter under varying operating conditions. Method of operating flowmeter (5) comprises the steps of: measuring (300) flow of fluid in the flowmeter; determining (320) at least one characteristic of the fluid, wherein the step of determining at least one characteristic of the fluid comprises the step of determining the density of the fluid; determining a preferred algorithm from a plurality of algorithms based on fluid flow rate and fluid density; and preferred algorithm (345) is applied to operating procedure (314) to determine the mass flow rate.

EFFECT: possibility of performing calibration with a two-step zeroing, while also providing the possibility of performing a standard zeroing by pressing a button.
