SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method for automatic control of accurate operation of a flow meter during field operation, which comprises providing a flow meter having an electronic meter with a memory system, and a flow of uncalibrated process fluid medium through a flow meter. Electronic meter is configured to perform the following steps: determining the model of the flow meter, as well as extracting the initial factory calibration, the factory zero value and the stored zero drift specification from the memory system. Zero value is measured during field operation of the flow meter and compared with the factory zero value. Erroneous zero value is calculated.
EFFECT: determining whether the mismatch is between the zero field operation value and the factory zero value within the zero drift specification, and the flow meter is calibrated if the mismatch lies outside the zero drift specification.
