FIELD: fodders.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an edible dog chew and methods for preparing same. Edible pet chew for consumption by pets has a twisted body formed from edible material. Twisted body has enhanced textural characteristics in comparison to an untwisted body formed of the edible material. Twist angle of the body is from about 80° to about 440°. Edible material comprises a fibrous protein in an amount of about 15 to about 90% by weight of the chew, a water absorbent polymer in an amount of about 5 to about 35% by weight of the chew, a plasticiser in an amount of about 5 to about 40% by weight of the chew and water in an amount of about 1 to about 20% by weight of the chew.
EFFECT: pet chew has improved texture and hygiene properties.
