FIELD: signaling.
SUBSTANCE: road surveillance system (1) is adapted to monitor surveillance area (8) of road (15) and comprises a plurality of vehicle surveillance means. Vehicle surveillance means have equal coverage of surveillance area (8). Vehicle surveillance means are adapted to measure a position of a vehicle passing said surveillance area (8), are controlled by an ECU, and are synchronised with a global timing signal. In order to calibrate said plurality of vehicle surveillance means such that a position determination of said plurality of vehicle surveillance means are equal. Calibration vehicle (5) is passed through said surveillance area (8). Calibration vehicle (5) is provided with plurality of predefined calibration markers (6). One marker is assigned to each vehicle surveillance means. Calibration markers (6) are provided at predetermined positions on said calibration vehicle (5). During passage of said calibration vehicle (5) through said surveillance area, each vehicle surveillance means measures the position of its assigned calibration markers (6). Measurement is performed at a predetermined time. Reference vehicle surveillance means, which defines a reference coordinate system, is selected. Said measured position of a calibration marker assigned to a vehicle surveillance means is compared with a position of a calibration marker assigned to said reference vehicle surveillance means. Said plurality of vehicle surveillance means is calibrated such that the position of respective calibration markers (6) in said reference coordinate system (14) correspond to an expected position in said reference coordinate system (14). Road surveillance system is also disclosed.
EFFECT: improved method of calibrating a road surveillance system.
