SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metamaterials for obtaining a strong localization of electromagnetic fields in a small region, in comparison with the wavelength. Metamaterial, which is an equilateral cell of a frequency-selective surface, consisting of a dielectric plate with four identical cylindrical apertures equidistant from each other, characterized in that, for the wavelength range of working radiation from 60 cm to 1 mcm, the ratio of the side length of the cell of the frequency-selective surface to the wavelength of the working radiation is in the range from 1.4 to 1.45, the ratio of the distance between the centers of the cylindrical holes to the wavelength of the working radiation is in the range from 0.38 to 0.42, the ratio of the radius of the cylindrical holes to the wavelength of the working radiation is in the range from 0.15 to 0.19.
EFFECT: invention can be used for prototyping optical devices of various kinds and frequency ranges, as sensor elements, as elements of nano-antennas.
