FIELD: radio engineering; photonics.
SUBSTANCE: essence of the invention consists in the fact that a feature of the disclosed metamaterial for controlling the refraction and reflection of electromagnetic radiation, consisting of elementary structural units located from each other at distance less than wavelength of electromagnetic radiation, is that each of its elementary structural units, containing conductive elements from rings, arcs or spirals and rods, providing negative magnetic and electrical susceptibility in the operating range of electromagnetic waves, included is a pre-stressed composite element from an alloy with a shape memory effect (SME), which is mechanically tightly connected to other elements of the structural unit. Composite element with SME enables multiplex, reversible change of spatial configuration of structural unit elements in form of rings, arcs or spirals, controlled by temperature effect, to provide a change in response to the effect of an electromagnetic wave and to control the operating range of the entire device as a whole.
EFFECT: wider spectral range of metamaterial operation and possibility of controlling its parameters.
