SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mining, namely to the field of safety engineering and the prevention of endogenous fires in the underground mining of coal seams prone to spontaneous combustion. Method for predicting the content of carbon monoxide in the atmosphere of a worked out area of coal mine excavation sites, including a chemical analysis of the composition of an air sample taken from a sorption vessel with the coal being studied, and calculating the released amount of carbon monoxide as a function of the air flow rate, and the percentage of carbon monoxide in the atmosphere of the excavation site is determined by the formula: where qco – specific emission of carbon monoxide, m3/(1,000 t⋅min); M is the mass of loosened losses of coal left in the worked out area of the excavation site, kt; k is a coefficient that takes into account the amount of coal entering into a chemical reaction; Q – the amount of air passing through the area under investigation, m3/min.

EFFECT: technical result of the invention is to increase the safety of mining operations by determining the maximum allowable concentrations of CO at the control points of the excavation site and preventing the occurrence of endogenous fires.
