SUBSTANCE: to improve the hand-held hair removal device with improved detection of fine hair, hand-operated hair removal device (10) is provided comprising hair removal unit (12), support structure (14) for supporting the hair removal unit and light source (16) attached to the support structure. During operation, there is main direction (20) for moving the device. Hair removal unit includes skin contact portion (22) extending at least along primary axis (24) extending perpendicularly to the main moving direction to contact the user's skin during operation. Additionally, the light source can be set in the operating position (PO) to the side of the hair removal unit before the skin contact portion with respect to the main moving direction. In addition, in the operating position, the light source provides a light beam with a main propagation axis constituting an angle of incidence of less than 30° with an imaginary plane (33) extending parallel to the main direction of movement and the primary axis.
EFFECT: invention relates to mechanical hair removal.
