FIELD: manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the manufacture of a cutting device. Cutting device comprises a carbide substrate containing cobalt, and a polycrystalline diamond layer obtained by sintering powder. At least a portion of the polycrystalline diamond layer comprises a carbide of at least one material that reacts with diamond to form a carbide, has a coefficient of thermal expansion close to the coefficient of thermal expansion of diamond in the form of a binder, and is selected from the group comprising tungsten, rhenium, chromium and titanium. Part of the particles of the diamond powder in the polycrystalline diamond layer is chemically bound by the cobalt of the carbide substrate. According to the method of manufacturing a cutting device, at least one material in powder form, from a group comprising tungsten, rhenium, chromium and titanium, is added to diamond powder, the resulting powder is combined with a carbide substrate containing cobalt by mechanical compression with static pressure and sintering in a composite form at a temperature of 1,300–1,600 °C and a sintering pressure of 5–10 GPa to form a carbide and chemical bonding of part of the diamond powder particles to the cobalt of the carbide substrate by catalytic reaction thereof.
EFFECT: higher thermal stability of the cutting device.
