SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of animal feeds, namely, to a method for changing one or more characteristics of commensals in an animal by feeding the animal using a ration containing a film grain. Quinoa grain is present in an amount that effective to enhance the characteristics of commensals, such as the percentage of Lactobacillus in the total microbiota, the percentage of Bifidobacteria in the total microbiota, percentage of Clostridium in the total microbiota and the ratio of Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes.
EFFECT: present invention also relates to pet food compositions that contain an effective amount of film grain to enhance the aforementioned characteristics of commensals (animals are a cat or a dog).
