SUBSTANCE: this invention relates to a method of modulating gut microbiota in a canine. The method includes daily administration of a pet food composition to a canine within a period of no less than one month, wherein the composition contains from approximately 40% to approximately 60% protein, from approximately 10% to approximately 20% carbohydrates, fat and dietary fiber, wherein the bacterioidetes to firmicutes (B/F) ratio in the canine upon administering the composition is less than 0.8.

EFFECT: use of the invention will help normalize gut microbiota in animals.
