SUBSTANCE: embodiments of this invention relate generally to layers of adsorbents, adsorption contactors and methods of using them. Invention includes polymeric yarns that include a particle of an adsorbent such as a zeolite, a metal oxide, an organometallic lattice. Plurality of fibers formed from these polymeric filaments can be formed into an adsorbent bed for use in pressure swing adsorption and / or temperature change processes. Plurality of fibers can be packaged in a layer randomly, spirally twisted or woven into a fabric that can be formed into a contact structure. Adsorbent particle may be contained within the polymer filament and may interact with the medium containing the adsorption component by being in fluid communication with the medium through tortuous paths within the polymer.
