FIELD: audio equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for encoding and decoding an audio signal. In the method, the spectrum is formed by performing a conversion to the input audio signal to the frequency domain. Then, the spectrum is divided into sub-bands, which are given frequency bands. For each of the sub-bands, the quantized sub-band energy is obtained. Then, the tonality of the spectra of sub-bands is analyzed and the result of the analysis is derived. After that, the second sub-band of the number of said sub-bands is selected based on the result of the tonality analysis and the quantized energy of the sub-band. Further, the first number of bits to be allocated to the first sub-band is determined among the sub-bands. And the first encoded information is generated by encoding a sub-band spectrum among the spectra of sub-bands that is included in the first sub-band, by using the first number of bits. Then, the second encoded information is generated by encoding the sub-band spectrum among the sub-band spectra, which is included in the second sub-band, by using a pitch filter.

EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of efficiency of coding.
