SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of roll handling. When performing the method of handling parent rolls at paper converting plants, a platform with a base and a mill roll stand is provided. Base is made with the possibility of providing support for the parent roll at the waiting station. Mill roll stand is made with the possibility of receiving a roll at the unwinding station. Parent roll is positioned on the platform at the waiting station. Parent roll is transported along a predetermined path from said platform to said mill roll stand by means of an overhead crane. Crane is provided with movable arms. Before transportation, two latches are temporarily connected with the arms of the overhead crane. Latches are inserted into opposite base parts of the parent roll by means of arms. Roll is transported along a path containing at least one elevation or lowering portion, together with the clamps inserted into the roll.

EFFECT: mill roll stand is made with the possibility of receiving a roll at the unwinding station.
