SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of processing rolled materials. Device for handling parent reels comprises a bridge crane with movable arms, a platform, detection means and moving means. Each of the arms is adapted to engage a pin. Pin can be inserted in the corresponding side of the reel. Platform is designed to support the reel. Detection means are designed to detect changes in the load on the arms during insertion of pins into the reel. Moving means are adapted to move the reel and the arms relative to each other when said load limit is exceeded and bring the load to a value below said limit.
EFFECT: providing precise alignment of the arms of the crane relative to the core of the reel.
