SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a system and a method for capturing a rear part of a vehicle. Vehicle comprises a driver's cabin and a rearward extending portion that is pivotable with respect to the driver's cabin, for capturing a rear part of the rearward extending portion. System comprises two wheel sensors and a control unit. At the opposite ends of one axis of the rearward extending portion, only two wheel sensors are located to obtain information relating to the rotational movement of the wheels attached to the ends of said axis. Control unit is connected to the wheel sensors and determines the orientation of the rear of the rearward extending portion only based on information relating to the rotational movement of the wheels and obtained from only two sensors.

EFFECT: higher reliability of determining the position of the rear of a trailer.
