SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the pharmaceutical industry and is an antimicrobial composition suitable for use on skin and wounds, containing a source of silver ions, EDTA, present in the form of di-, tri- or tetra-basic salts of EDTA in an amount of 0.2 wt% to 1 wt% based on the weight of the composition, and a quaternary cationic surfactant present in an amount of 0.025 wt% to 4 wt%, where silver ions are included in the composition in an amount of 0.01 wt% to 10 wt% or, if the composition is in aqueous solution, the silver ions are from 0.00001 wt% to 1.0 wt%, inert excipients make up the balance.
