FIELD: hygiene.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions concerns an aqueous oral care composition and methods for preparing and using it. Disclosed composition contains: a) short-chain polyphosphate salt in amount of 0.1 wt % to 5.0 wt % in terms of total weight of composition, where the short-chain polyphosphate salt includes a chain of three phosphates or less and a monovalent cation; b) chlorhexidine digluconate in concentration of 0.1 wt % to 0.2 wt % in terms of total weight of composition; c) an anionic surfactant which comprises sodium lauryl sulphate in concentration of 0.1 wt % to 1.0 wt % based on the total weight of the composition, d) a nonionic surfactant, which includes poloxamer 407 in concentration of 0.1 wt %–2.0 wt % in terms of total weight of composition, and e) water. Method of producing said composition involves the following steps in the following order: a) adding a stabilizing amount of an anionic surfactant—sodium lauryl sulphate to water; b) adding a diluted chlorhexidine digluconate solution to the product of step a); c) adding a short-chain polyphosphate salt comprising a chain of three phosphates or less and a monovalent cation in solid form to the product of step b); d) mixing with the obtained non-ionic polymer solution, which is poloxamer 407. Components are used in said amounts in terms of total weight of composition. During the additions performed at stages a), b) and c), the pH value is maintained at the level of pH 5 to pH 6. Method of treatment and/or prevention of formation of chemical stain, plaque and/or dental calculus on dental surface involves bringing dental surface into contact with said composition.

EFFECT: group of inventions provides stability in combination of such poorly compatible ingredients as chlorhexidine, polyphosphate salts and anionic surfactants, such as SLS, and efficacy of the composition in the oral cavity.
