FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a bis(sulfonyl)alkanol-containing polythioether, wherein the bis(sulfonyl)alkanol-containing polythioether includes a moiety of formula (1): –A–R9–S(O)2–R10–CH(–OH)–R10–S(O)2–R9–A– (1), in which: each R9 is a moiety formed as a result of the reaction of bis(sulfonyl)alkanol with thiol groups; each R10 is independently selected from C1-3-alkanediyl and substituted C1-3-alkanediyl, in which one or more substituent groups are -OH; each A independently represents a moiety of formula (2): –S–R1–[–S–(CH2)p–O–(R2–O)m–(CH2)2–S–R1–]n–S– (2), wherein: each R1 independently includes C2-10-alkanediyl, C6-8-cycloalkanediyl, C6-10-alkanecycloalkanediyl, C5-8-heterocycloalkanediyl or a moiety -[(- CHR3-)s-X-]q- (- CHR3-)r-, in which: s is an integer from 2 to 6; q is an integer from 1 to 5; r is an integer from 2 to 10; each R3 independently embodies hydrogen or methyl; and each X independently embodies -O-, -S-, and -NR5-, in which R5 is selected from hydrogen and methyl; and each R2 independently includes C1-10-alkanediyl, C6-8-cycloalkanediyl, C6-14-alkanecycloalkanediyl or a moiety -[(- CHR3-)s-X-]q- (-CHR3-)r-, in which s, q, r, R3 and X are as described in the case of R1; m is an integer from 0 to 50; n is an integer from 1 to 60; and p is an integer from 2 to 6. Method for its preparation is also described and a composition used as an aerospace sealant containing said bis(sulfonyl)alkanol-containing polythioether is described.

EFFECT: technical result is the preparation of a bis(sulfonyl)alkanol-containing polythioether having enhanced adhesion to metal surfaces and suitable for use as an aerospace sealant.
