SUBSTANCE: application discloses a solid catalyst component for the polymerisation of an olefin containing magnesium, titanium, halogen and an electron donor which is in form of diol diesters, wherein the diesters are selected from the group consisting of 2,4-hexanediol-bis(4-ethylbenzoate), 2,4-hexanediol-bis(4-n-propylbenzoate), 2,4-hexanediol-bis(4-n-butylbenzoate), 2,4-hexanediol-bis(4-isobutylbenzoate) and others listed in claim 1. Catalyst for the polymerisation of an olefin is also provided, comprising the following components: component a): said catalyst component; and component b): alkyl aluminium compounds. Prepolymerisation catalyst comprises said catalyst and a prepolymer prepared by prepolymerising said catalyst and olefins, wherein the prepolymerisation is carried out at amounts of 0.1 to 1000 g of olefin polymers, based on 1 g of the catalyst component. Olefin polymerisation process is carried out in the presence of a catalyst component, a catalyst or a prepolymerisation catalyst. Catalyst of the present invention has substantially improved polymerisation activity, hydrogen sensitivity, and stereoselectivity.

EFFECT: catalyst of the present invention is suitable for the preparation of polymers having a high melt index and high isotacticity and for the development of polymers of different grades.
