SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a device for generating steam, in particular to a device for generating steam, which can be included in a device for applying steam to a product, such as clothing or bedding. Steam generating device comprises water inlet (19), evaporation surface (24) and heater (26) located adjacent to the evaporation surface for heating the evaporation surface. Water inlet (19) is located relative to evaporation surface (24) so that water flows to the evaporation surface from water inlet (19) and forms a film on the evaporation surface which evaporates from evaporation surface (24). Device also has scale collection region (23). Evaporation surface (24) and scale collection region (23) are formed in such a way that when using the device, scale collection region (23) is positioned below evaporation surface (24), so that the scale, separated from evaporation surface (24) and falling from evaporation surface (24), falls into scale collection region (23).
