SUBSTANCE: method for screening solvents for solubilization of petroleum hydrocarbons, which comprises mixing at least 10 to 120 ppm of petroleum hydrocarbons with a selected solvent to form a first solution; the optical density of the first solution is measured by the spectroscopic method with the use of a sensor; a co-solvent comprising an ionic liquid is added to the first solution and mixed to form a second solution; the optical density of the second solution is measured by the spectroscopic method with the use of a sensor; and the increase in optical density of the second solution is measured with respect to the first solution using a control unit connected to the sensor, wherein the optical density increase is at least about 70%. Also, the invention comprises a system and method for treating petroleum hydrocarbons.

EFFECT: technical result is obtaining the most advantageous variant of the method and measuring the solubility of petroleum hydrocarbons in various solvents and co-solvent.
