FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a multilayer coating applied by the method of physical deposition, in particular to functional coatings primarily for products such as cutting and die tools, surgical implants (endoprostheses), as well as friction pairs, which can be synthesized by ion-plasma methods. Multilayer composite coating contains an adhesive transition layer on the surface of a metal product, consisting of Zr and Ti or Ti, alternating working layers having the same composition and made with a thickness different from the thickness of nearby alternating working layers not more than 2.85 times, the coating contains additional transition layers placed between alternating working layers and including metals IV, and / or V, and / or VI groups of the Periodic Table of the chemical elements from the composition of adjacent alternating working layers. Thickness of the additional transition layers is 3–10 % of the thickness of the adjacent alternating working layers.
EFFECT: expansion of the technological capabilities of the multilayer coating on the working surface of the metal product is ensured by expanding the range of coating thicknesses while reducing their internal defects with thicknesses greater than 10 microns.
