SUBSTANCE: invention relates to railway vehicles. System for supplying a rail vehicle with electrical energy comprises two internal combustion engines, an electrical machine for generating electricity connected to the engine and an engine and machine control system. If necessary, the control system can start the engines one by one. Device for heating and determining the temperature of the engines is also provided. While one engine is running, the other engine starts when the temperature of the other engine reaches or falls below a first predetermined limit value. Control system reduces the power of the engine(s) already in operation, as soon as the other engine is started and contributes to the total power of all the engines in operation.

EFFECT: avoiding engine warmup.
