FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the chemical industry, in particular the production of granulated sodium acetate trihydrate, which can be used both as an individual product, and as part of anti-icing compositions (means) used to melt snow and/or ice and to prevent slipperiness of the road surface. Method of obtaining granulated sodium acetate trihydrate includes mixing in the reactor with a stoichiometric ratio of initial reagents: acetic acid and sodium-containing component, carrying out the process at a temperature of 70–90 °C, adding water to achieve a pH of 7–9 solution and to obtain a melt of sodium acetate concentration of 50–65 wt. %, and a corrosion inhibitor, such as sodium benzoate in an amount of not more than 1.0 wt. %, after which a recycle is introduced into the melt in an amount of not more than 20 % by weight of the reactants and sent to a granulator-crystallizer, further cooling is carried out naturally to obtain sodium acetate trihydrate granules with a basic size of 3–4 mm and flowability of 7.8–10 g/with, an acetic acid solution of 70–100 % concentration is used, and sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide, or a mixture of them in the form of an aqueous solution or in a solid state is used as the sodium-containing component.
EFFECT: technical result is a reduction in the caking of sodium acetate, an increase in flowability, an increase in the uniformity of the particle size distribution while simplifying the process for the preparation of sodium acetate trihydrate.
