FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry and specifically to a method of producing potassium acetate - base of anti-icing compositions. Method of producing potassium acetate involves mixing reactants in a reactor: aqueous solution of acetic acid and potassium hydroxide, conducting process at high temperature, wherein potassium carbonate is further added to reactor before adding potassium hydroxide in stoichiometric ratio of acid with said reagents required for reaction, after introduction of potassium carbonate solution is stirred until removal of carbon dioxide and until achieving pH 2-5, followed by adding to prepared solution of potassium acetate and acetic acid in reactor potassium hydroxide, wherein by heat emission of exothermal reaction temperature of reaction mixture rises to not more than 100 °C, where reaction mixture is held until complete removal of carbon dioxide and to obtain a solution of potassium acetate with concentration of 48-60 wt%, pH 9.2-11.0 and density of 1.24-1.32 g/cm3.
EFFECT: high stability and processability, reduced power consumption due to use of exothermal reaction heat, high content of potassium acetate in obtained aqueous concentrate.
