FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the preparation of raw materials for the iron and steel industry. For the utilization of chromium slime sludge, joint processing of chromium slime with iron ore concentrate is carried out during the agglomeration of the charge. Thermal treatment of the sludge is carried out in the temperature range 1100–1400 °C. As starting components of the charge, a chromate slurry is used, iron ore concentrate and coke at the following ratio of dry weight components, by weight: iron ore concentrate 63–71, chromate slurry 21–31, coke 6–8.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to convert hexavalent chromium to a safe state by combining the processing of slimes of chromate production with iron ore concentrate during the agglomeration of the charge and subsequent smelting of cast iron, simplify the process of neutralization and processing of sludge by involving it in the technological processes of ferrous metallurgy, while waste of chromate production is added to agglomerate instead of traditional fluxing additives such as limestone.
