FIELD: package and storage.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to glass containers. Glass container comprises a glass article having a glass body extending between an interior surface and an exterior surface and defining an interior volume. Container has an interior region extending from about 10 nm below the interior surface of the body into a thickness of the body and having a persistent layer homogeneity. Interior region has a thickness of at least about 100 nm. Glass article is made of a glass composition that contains: SiO2 in an amount greater than or equal to about 67 mol% and less than or equal to about 80 mol%; Al2O3 in an amount greater than or equal to about 2 mol% and less than or equal to about 10 mol%; alkali oxide comprising at least one of Na2O and K2O in an amount greater than about 2 mol% and less than or equal to about 18 mol%; alkali-earth oxide in an amount greater than or equal to about 3 mol% and less than or equal to about 13 mol%, where alkali-earth oxide contains MgO in an amount greater than or equal to about 3 mol% and less or equal to about 8 mol%, and CaO in an amount from about 0 mol% to less than or equal to about 6 mol%. Glass composition does not contain components, which form gas phase components with equilibrium partial pressures of more than about 10-3 atm at temperatures corresponding to a viscosity in the range of about 200 P to about 100 kP.
