FIELD: motor vehicle industry.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method for controlling stopping and starting of car (1) engine (5) comprising a manual gearbox, while the gearbox of car (1) is in a state with the gear engaged. Method uses a set of predefined conditions that must be fulfilled and which depend on the respective states of the clutch pedal and the brake pedal under the previous “engine stopped” primary state. There are at least two “engine stopped” primary states from which the engine can be directly restarted, and at least two "engine stopped" secondary states, from which the engine cannot be directly started. Method adapts the conditions necessary for starting engine (5) depending on how the driver of the car manipulates the clutch and brake pedals while engine (5) is in a stopped state. In a modified version of the method, engine (5) cannot be started until it is determined that the accelerator pedal is in a depressed state, thereby further reducing the amount of fuel that is inefficiently used by car (1).
EFFECT: method and system for controlling the stopping and starting of a car engine, and car having such a system are disclosed.
