SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for checking the surface of a composite structure before it is joined and a structure based on a peelable layer for use in this method. Method includes: providing a peel ply comprising a surface containing an identifiable marking agent; placing said peel ply on the surface of the composite substrate, and the surface of the peel ply being in contact with said surface of the composite substrate; joint curing of the peel ply and the composite substrate; removing the peel ply from the composite substrate to form the modified surface of the composite substrate and checking the composite substrate to identify an identifiable marking agent transferred to said modified surface, wherein the identifiable marking agent points to the residue transferred from said peel ply to said composite substrate. Structure based on the peel ply comprises: a peel ply having a surface; and an identifiable marking agent, wherein the surface of the peel ply comprises an identifiable marking agent.

EFFECT: invention enables to prepare the surface of a composite structure for joining and checking the surface before joining it.
