SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to biotechnology. Disclosed is a microorganism of the genus Escherichia, which produces O-acetyl-homoserine, where the activity of a protein containing the amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO: 1 is higher compared to an unmodified microorganism producing O-acetyl-homoserine, and where cystathionine synthase activity is inactivated compared to an unmodified O-acetyl-homoserine-producing microorganism. Method of producing O-acetyl-homoserine and a method of producing L-methionine using said microorganism are also disclosed.
EFFECT: invention provides improved production of O-acetyl-homoserine.
