SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a multichannel audio encoder and audio decoder for generating an encoded representation of a multichannel audio signal and two audio output signals based on the encoded representation. Multichannel audio decoder is configured to perform a weighted combination of a downmix signal, a decorrelated signal and a residual signal, to obtain one of the output audio signals, and is also configured to determine a weight describing a contribution of the decorrelated signal in the weighted combination in dependence on the residual signal. Multichannel audio encoder is configured to obtain a downmix signal on the basis of the multichannel audio signal, to provide parameters and to provide a residual signal, and is also configured to vary an amount of residual signal included into the encoded representation in dependence on the multichannel audio signal.

EFFECT: technical result is an improvement in the quality of recovery of signals to decoded signals without additional overhead.
