FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to neutral aqueous electrolytes for impregnating carbon electrodes with electric double layer capacitors used in the manufacture of power sources and electrical energy storage devices. Electrolyte contains a neutral aqueous solution of one of the sulfates of alkali metals from the group Li, Na, K and benzotriazole in the following ratio of initial components, wt. %: alkali metal sulfate 5–10, benzotriazole 0.1–1.0, water – the rest.

EFFECT: invention allows to increase the operating voltage of the carbon supercapacitor to 2 V by reducing the potential for reducing hydrogen from an aqueous electrolyte.
