FIELD: motor vehicle industry.

SUBSTANCE: trap contains a substrate containing at least one passage for exhaust gases in it, with the walls of the passage for exhaust gases containing hydrocarbon trapping material and an oxidation catalyst. Substrate contains an inlet for hot exhaust gases from the engine of the vehicle and an outlet for exhaust gases, and in addition, contains an intake channel, an outlet channel and intermediate channels through which exhaust gases flow. Intermediate channel is oriented so that the flow of exhaust gases through the passage for exhaust gases is reversed from the direction of flow in the inlet and outlet channels to improve the performance of the hydrocarbon trap.

EFFECT: conversion of hydrocarbons present in vehicle exhaust gases into more environmentally friendly compounds during cold starts is achieved.
