FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to continuous casting. In the method, the mold contains plate (1) of copper or copper alloy. On the entire inner surface of plate (1) or on its part, at least in the zone from the meniscus of liquid steel at a distance of 20 mm or more below the meniscus of liquid steel, there are separate sections (3) filled with metal, whose thermal conductivity is 80 % or less or 125 % or greater than the thermal conductivity of the metal plate of the mold. Sections (3) are arranged to ensure a regular and periodic increase and decrease of the thermal resistance of the mold near the meniscus of liquid steel in the direction of the width of the mold and in the direction of casting.
EFFECT: prevention of surface cracks of the crust of the workpiece at an early stage of crystallization is ensured, the formation of cracks on the mold wall is reduced.
