FIELD: milling.
SUBSTANCE: cutting insert (100) having two end surfaces (102) and peripheral surface (104), wherein end surfaces (102) are located on opposite sides of mid-plane (P). Each end surface (102) has three primary apexes (106) and three secondary apexes (108). Six cutting portions (110) are formed along intersection of peripheral surface (104) and end surfaces (102). Each cutting portion (110) has first cutting edge (112) and second cutting edge (114) extending transversely thereto. Ramping cutting edge (118) extends between second cutting edge (114) of each cutting portion (110) and first cutting edge (112) of adjacent cutting portion (110). Peripheral surface (104) has clearance surface (120) extending from each of second cutting edges (114) towards mid-plane (P). Abutment planes (AP) of insert (100) are parallel to mid-plane (P). Each of first cutting edges (112) lies between adjacent abutment plane (AP) and adjacent primary apex (106).
