SUBSTANCE: proposed invention relates to means for storing and retrieving large volumes of test tubes. In the method, the apparatus for storage and retrieval of large volumes of test tubes to / from storage contains: module (6) to input / output test tubes (4) in / from automated system (3) for transporting test tubes (4) in transport devices (5) of single test tubes (4), multiple pick up device (60) made with the possibility of capturing test tubes (4) from a variety of transport devices (5) of single test tubes (4), single pick up device (62) configured to pick up test tubes (4) from second container (10), first station (70) for provisional placement of containers (9, 10) on separate locations of same shelf (71), second station (74) for provisional location of first container (9) on one or more shelves (71), motorized travelling lift (8), made with the possibility of simultaneous transportation on two separate coplanar locations of first and second containers (9, 10) and made with the possibility of their bidirectional movement.
EFFECT: invention provides high performance transportation of a large volume of test tubes with stored samples.
