FIELD: instrument engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to fiber optic current sensors. In the method, a fiber-optic current sensor has optoelectronic modular part (10-2) for detecting an optical phase shift, caused by measurable field in measuring fiber (12), sensor head (10-1) including measuring fiber (12), wherein measuring fiber (12) is a high-birefringence spun fiber having a length, determined by means of a linear integral along a spatial curve defined by a measuring fiber coil, so that the length L of measuring fiber (12) is long enough to suppress the thermal instabilities of the signal due to the spun nature of measuring fiber (12), while the effective number of turns of the fiber is sufficiently low, to maintain maximum sensitivity over the full range of fiber optic sensor (10).
EFFECT: technical result is to reduce the adverse effects of stress in the fiber and to simplify the installation of the measuring fiber coil.
