FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: apparatus has a light source, a shaping optical system in form of a microlens, a polariser, a polarisation-neutral beam splitter, a unit for detecting intensity of orthogonally polarised light components, which consists of an analyser in form of a polarisation beam splitter and two photodetectors. The sensitive element is made from a spun light guide in form of a loop around a conductor carrying the measured current, said loop consisting of at least one fibre winding. The unit for reverse input of radiation into the fibre is in form of a microlens and a Faraday mirror. The end faces of the light guide are made without axial reflection of light, and the spun light guide is selected with different signs of relative temperature coefficients, Verdet constants of the material of the core of the fibre and length beats of the built-in linear double refraction.

EFFECT: high accuracy and stability of operation.
