FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: device consists of an electronic and an optical module. The optical module includes a radiation source, a directional coupler, series-arranged radiation polariser, radiation polarisation modulator, fibre line and measuring sensitive fibre loop. The electronic module includes a signal processing unit, a photodetector and a signal generator connected to the modulator. The radiation polarisation modulator is in form of a fibre loop lying in the longitudinal field of a solenoid. The fibre line is in form of a double bifilar fibre. The fibre loop of the modulator and the double bifilar fibre line are made from magnetically sensitive optical fibre with built-in linear double refraction. Microstructured fibre can be used in the fibre-optic current sensor as the magnetically sensitive fibre with built-in linear double refraction.
EFFECT: high sensitivity and accuracy of the sensor, reduced current measurement error due to external temperatures and mechanical effects.
