FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in radiochemical technology to reduce the content of chloride ion in nitric acid process solutions. Method includes carrying out a preliminary reduction treatment of the solution, which ensures the transfer of oxidizing ions contained in the initial chlorine-containing solution to lower valence states and chlorine in the form of chloride ion with the registration of the change (jump) in the system potential. Ascorbic acid, hydrazine, carbohydrazide, nitrate solution of U (IV) are used as a reducing agent. Subsequent quantitative extraction of chloride ion is carried out in the volume of a layer of silver-containing sorbent with a developed surface in a dynamic mode in a continuous-type column apparatus, followed by washing, desorption of chlorine and regeneration of the sorbent.
EFFECT: technical result of the invention consists in reducing the content of chloride ion in the process solutions to a concentration of less than 1,4 mg/l when the content of nitric acid in the initial solutions is up to 8 mol/l and while ensuring high efficiency of the process.
